The U.S. Forest Service has approved logging and chaparral removal on this ridge in the heart of Ventura County.

We’re going to court to protect this special place.

A massive logging and habitat clearance project has been approved in old-growth conifer forest and chaparral threatens Pine Mountain Ridge deep in the Ventura County backcountry. The Forest Service has used two loopholes to avoid preparing an environmental assessment for the project. A coalition of organizations and local governments have filed multiple lawsuits against the project.

About the Logging Project

The Trump administration proposed the project in late May 2020, amid a pandemic, economic crisis, and widespread protests against racial injustice. The U.S. Forest Service provided only a single comment period for the public to weigh in with their concerns before approving the project in October 2021. For anyone interested, it’s crucial to understand what is being proposed and how it may impact Pine Mountain.
